Four teams remain, two ties decide the finalists, and for the first time in World Cup history the last four are the four highest-ranked sides on the planet: France, Spain, England and Argentina. It is a bracket without a soft touch. France vs Spain kicks off the semifinals today in Dallas, England vs Argentina follows on Wednesday in Atlanta, and the winners meet at MetLife Stadium on July 19. With Canada out and every host nation eliminated, this is the round to read the whole board as a neutral. Below I take each semifinal in turn — the shape, the form, the outright standing — then map where the path to the final leads. For the deep single-match reads, the France vs Spain preview and England vs Argentina preview go further, and the semifinal picks page lands on the value.

Two semifinals set the final in New Jersey — France, Spain, England and Argentina, the tournament’s four top-ranked teams, are the last four standing.
  • Semifinals: France vs Spain today (July 14, 3:00 PM ET, Dallas); England vs Argentina on July 15 (3:00 PM ET, Atlanta).
  • France are the clear tournament favourite at 2.35–2.50; behind them Spain, England and Argentina are bunched between roughly 4.10 and 5.90.
  • France vs Spain is a Euro 2024 semifinal rematch and only their second-ever World Cup meeting; England vs Argentina is the first World Cup meeting of the rivals since 2002.
  • The winners meet in the final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, on July 19.

The Outright Picture

France remain the side to beat, sitting on top of every book at 2.35 to 2.50 as the tournament’s only clear favourite. Behind them the market is compressed and, unusually, the books disagree on the order. On some Canadian-facing lines England have steamed to second favourite after their extra-time win over Norway (around 4.10), with Spain (4.30 to 5.10) and Argentina (5.00 to 5.20) just behind; on others Spain sit second and England third. That disagreement is itself a signal — there is no consensus second-best, only a clear first. Those numbers were drawn on July 13 and, being outright prices, they move with each result. The full board and how it narrowed through the knockouts sit on the odds hub and the winner predictions page, and the outright angle in detail is on our final four odds page.

France vs Spain — Today, 3:00 PM ET, Dallas

The “final before the final.” France and Spain have met only once before at a World Cup — the 2006 Round of 16, France winning 3–1 — but they collided far more recently, at the Euro 2024 semifinal, which Spain won on their way to the title. France arrive as the tournament’s most complete side: 16 goals scored, two conceded, three clean sheets in three knockout ties. Spain arrive unbeaten in 36 and one short of Argentina’s all-time record, though they finally conceded their first goal of the tournament against Belgium. The team news matters here — Aurélien Tchouaméni is a major doubt for France with a thigh problem, and Kylian Mbappé is carrying an ankle knock — and it is priced tight, France around 2.35 with the draw and Spain both near 3.20. France vs Spain opens the semifinals in Dallas — a repeat of the Euro 2024 semifinal and only the sides’ second-ever World Cup meeting.

England vs Argentina — July 15, 3:00 PM ET, Atlanta

The tighter tie on paper, and the one the market rates hardest to call. England and Argentina have not met at a World Cup since 2002 (England 1–0, a Beckham penalty), and the rivalry’s history runs through Maradona’s 1986 “Hand of God,” the 1998 Beckham red card and the shootout that followed. England are unbeaten and carry Bellingham in form and Kane on six goals; Argentina bring Messi, level on eight goals as the tournament’s co-leading scorer, and the goals of the four semifinalists. England are marginal favourites in the tie, around 2.60 to Argentina’s 3.10 with the draw near 2.90 — the most compressed three-way price of the round. England are missing the suspended Quansah; Argentina are managing the legs after two extra-time ties. The England vs Argentina preview has the full read.

Where the Bracket Leads

The path is simple now: the France/Spain winner meets the England/Argentina winner at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, with the third-place play-off the day before. On paper the bracket points toward a France final, but two of the four ties this bracket has already produced went to extra time, and England and Argentina in particular is a coin-flip the books are not confident pricing. My read: France are rightly favourite and the most complete team left, but the value across this round is in the compressed England–Argentina market rather than the France price, which I break down on the semifinal picks page. The betting guide covers how I stake a two-match round where either tie can reach penalties, and the MetLife Stadium page has the venue detail for the final itself.
